Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is looking for outgoing and friendly volunteers who are interested in working with the National Park Service helping rangers with the programming at the 2018 LA County Fair. The interactions at this event often forms a lasting impression of the park and surrounding public lands, shaping the possibility and interest in a future park visit.
Duties will include interacting with the visitors, implementing the education programming for school groups. orienting the visitor to recreational opportunities in the LA area and set-up or clean-up.
Must be able to commit to a full morning or afternoon shift of five hours.
There will be an orientation prior to the beginning of the fair, with two dates to choose from.

Description
Community engagement has been a part of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) for a long time and the park opened a downtown Los Angeles office to serve the local LA area community with a dedicated set of rangers to reach non-traditional and under served audiences. Staff has worked to create partnerships with local schools, recreation centers, and community organizations. Without federal lands in LA proper, the park works with LA County Parks and Recreation, city of Los Angles, Mountains Recreation Conservation Authority, and other local partners to conduct programming on their lands. Santa Monica Mountains targets park-poor communities for their outreach.
