We need volunteers that are interested in leading food distributions a part of our Foodmobile Program. The primary responsibility of a Foodmobile Captain is to efficiently manage the on site Foodmobile distribution process from set up to tear down. Captains will mobilize and manage teams of volunteers assembled by the Eastern Illinois Foodbank and will serve as the primary resource for volunteers, clients, and partner organizations on the day of the distribution. Foodmobile distributions generally occur on Saturdays and last approximately 4-6 hours. Foodmobiles Captains must provide their own transportation.

Contact Emily at volunteer@eifoodbank.org for more information on becoming a Foodmobile Captain and to apply.

Mission Statement

Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) exists to alleviate hunger in Eastern Illinois.

Description

Eastern Illinois Foodbank is the primary food source for food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and other programs working to alleviate food insecurity. The Foodbank acquires millions of pounds of food and grocery product through purchase or donation and distributes it across our network of more than 160 feeding programs. Together, we’re working to create a hunger-free eastern Illinois. By partnering with EIF, emergency food programs are able to save millions of dollars each year in food purchase and handling costs. These savings allow them to focus their efforts and funds on more effectively working to alleviate hunger in our area. The Foodbank also operates programs targeted to children, seniors and veterans.

We fight hunger in communities throughout these 18 eastern Illinois counties:

  • Champaign County
  • Clark County
  • Clay County
  • Coles County
  • Crawford County
  • Cumberland County
  • DeWitt County
  • Douglas County
  • Edgar County
