Join us as we assist community members shopping for food items in our on-site pantry! Volunteers in this role will help us with restocking the pantry, getting groceries out to the vehicles of pantry clients, weighing food items, and making sure everyone is welcomed as they join us to receive food items. We can't serve the dozens of families that depend on the food we provide without volunteer power.

  • Able to stand, move, bend, and lift in a tight environment.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
  • Able to safely use box cutter, packing tape dispenser, and other packing tools as needed.

Age Requirement: For safety reasons, all volunteers in the pantry be 16 years of age or older.

Please note that we have other volunteer opportunities in our warehouse for children 10 years of age or older!

Mission Statement

The Food Bank of Iowa is a charitable, not-for-profit organization committed to our mission of alleviating hunger through food distribution, partnership and education.

Description

From the time the dock doors opened in 1982, we have maintained our No. 1 priority - maximizing "food in - food out" to meet the critical needs of a diverse population through our network of partner agencies in 55 Iowa counties.

As a non-profit food bank, our primary role is to provide food to the charitable agencies offering direct service to hungry Iowans.

These partner agencies include:

  • Food pantries
  • Soup kitchens
  • Homeless shelters
  • Shelters for victims of domestic violence
  • Nonprofit day care centers
  • Residential care centers
  • Child and senior programs

Along with traditional food banking, the Food Bank of Iowa also operates three successful programs: Backpack Buddies, HUSH and the Fresh Produce Project.
