ORGANIZATION: Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Do you enjoy art, meeting fellow teens, and hanging out in an amazing space surrounded by art from around the world? The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s Teen Programs Volunteer position may be just what you’re looking for!

Teen Programs volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks that support the museum’s teen programs. You’ll help set up and staff teen events at the museum and help promote the museum’s teen programs at off-site events such as Comic-Con, TedX Youth, and others.

The position is open to volunteers ages 15-18; volunteers must be available to assist with teen events on Thursdays 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. and the last Friday of the month from 5:30 - 9 p.m. Other days/hours may be available for other events and outreach activities. (Flexible scheduling; at least one shift per month required.) This position runs from September through May; volunteers must fill their entire commitment to receive a positive reference. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours for school while getting more involved with the museum and its teen programs.

To apply for Fall 2018, email volunteer@nelson-atkins.org by June 30, 2018, attach a cover letter explaining your interest in the position, and provide contact information for one (non-family member) reference. Background checks required.

Volunteers must be able to attend a general volunteer orientation on Saturday, August 4 or Saturday, August 8.

Mission Statement

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art invites all people to explore the art in its care, and through its broad collection, the depths and complexities of human experiences. We welcome and provide free access to everyone to enjoy and contemplate artistic creations from 5,000 years ago to present day. We believe that art has the ability to uplift, surprise, challenge, and transform. It gives expression not only to distant cultures and times, but also to immediate voices and issues, and provides avenues for exploring the world, past and present, and for informing our future. We nurture the people who are dedicated to the museum’s success and who care for the collection and campus, and we support and learn from our audiences and our communities.
