The American Red Cross is looking for people who are passionate in working with families & children to educate on how to stay safe during emergencies. We have two local programs that educate families & children in emergency safety - the Pillowcase Project & the Home Fire Campaign.
The Pillowcase Project sends teams of one to two people into local elementary schools in order to teach classrooms of 3rd-5th graders about how to stay safe in times of emergency. We also go over how to talk to the adults in their families about having a safe place to go during a house fire. We will provide the supplies - such as pillowcases & markers - in order to have a positive experience in teaching kids about safety.
The Home Fire Campaign allows volunteers to participate in our Sound the Alarm events that will happen four times a year in each chapter. We will canvas a neighborhood in one of the towns in each county to ensure that every house has smoke alarms that are working. In this, families are also provided information on how to stay safe during severe storms and to consider how they can create a fire exit plan. This is crucial to building community resistance toward disasters.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our office. We look forward to hearing from you.
