ORGANIZATION: Marion County Volunteer Services, Oregon
Please visit the new page to apply.
Volunteer will work with the Marion County Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team to provide support for an individual required to receive dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours each time. Due to a severe mental illness, the individual occasionally tries to walk off while connected to the dialysis machine, which is potentially dangerous. The volunteers will sit with this individual in the medical facility during his dialysis treatment, providing distraction to stay for the entire procedure, encouraging use of coping skills, and provide moral support.
An ideal volunteer for this position would have some knowledge of mental health and experience working with individuals with a severe mental illness. The volunteer would also be willing to commit to supporting this individual for an extended period of time to provide consistency.
