ORGANIZATION: Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

The Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program needs volunteer advocates who are empathetic, diplomatic, assertive and skilled communicators to:

  • Visit local nursing and assisted living facilities
  • Work to protect residents' rights and help resolve problems
  • Dedicate four hours/week for one year
  • Flexible volunteer/visiting schedules
  • Participate in annual ongoing training

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call 703-324-5861 to learn more about the program. A three-day in-person training will be offered in March 2024 for all potential volunteers. Background checks and references are required.

Description

Ombudsmen:

Advocate for improving the quality of life for persons receiving long-term care services.
Resolve complaints against long-term care providers through counseling, negotiation, and investigation.
Provide information about long-term care providers to help consumers make an informed choice.
Educate the community about long-term care issues.
Visit long term care facilities on a weekly basis through our volunteer program.
Train long-term care staff.
Consult with providers.
