Increase awareness of the Summer Food Service Program aka Summer Meals, a federally funded program that provides hot food to children 18 and under throughout the entire country while school is not in session. Unfortunately, Summer Meals is a vastly underutilized program in New York City. Only about 29% of students eligible for free and reduced school lunch utilize Summer Meals. Our goal at HFA is to promote the Summer Meals program and its site locations with a vigorous outreach campaign. Community outreach is an effective way to educate families about the Summer Meals program and where the closet sites are to them.
This role is ideal for someone who is outgoing and friendly; comfortable talking to people they don’t know; enjoys being outside in different communities; and supports the mission to eliminate food insecurity in NYC. Must be 18 years old, or accompanied by someone 18 or older, and able to be outside for 2-3 hours at a time. Participants will be distributing information about the program and meal site locations.

Mission Statement
HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Description
HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
