Volunteer or Community Service Opportunity
What: Kids Club - Monthly interaction with approximately 30 children and 20 adults who represent a food insecure population in Decatur, IL
When: The last Saturday of each month from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Why: To enhance literacy through science, exposure to a variety of books and stories.
Where: Decatur First United Methodist Church, 201 West North Street, Decatur, IL
Who: We need service organizations with 10 volunteers to help with registration, to assist adults and children with hands on projects, to provide encouragement, and assist with check out process.
How often? Choose what months of the year your group would be willing to make a commitment. Some groups choose one month a year, others chose every third month. We will provide an orientation.
What’s in it for you? With permission we will photograph your group with the children and post information on our Church Website and Facebook Page as a way of thanking you for your service.

Our Mission is to provide enhancement opportunities for a population of children who participate in a free monthly meal program (along with a parent / caring adult / or guardian). This Micro-Lab, is an innovative learning laboratory, with opportunities for literacy:; academic, social and emotional.
Description
Kids Club is an extension of an ongoing 15 year old monthly meal program. We are piloting a program for food insecure children and their families to provide enhancement academically, socially, and emotionally.
The program provides:
1) literacy opportunities including story time,
2) one new book per month,
3) exposure to science experiments and concepts,
4) hands on opportunities for gardening and positive environmental improvement experiences, and
5) coaching opportunities for healthy parenting skills.
