ORGANIZATION: Ignite Change

  • 2 people are interested

Our new and growing nonprofit is looking for an experienced board chair to lead! Our programs operate in Uganda so our executive director lives there for the majority of the year. We need someone in the US to lead the board and take charge of the donor management from this side.

The Board Chair would need to have frequent communication with the Executive Director and the rest of the board. Dedicating at least 5-10 hours a week to growing and sustaining our donors as well as promoting Ignite Change in the community would be optimal.

You will truly have the opportunity to lay the foundation for an organization that is around a year old. To help it grow and have an impact where people desperately need assistance.

More skills and duties are listed below.

Skills/Qualifications Needed:

  • A mature and growing relationship with Christ, a dependence on the Holy Spirit to live in a manner that would honor Christ, and a concern for the spiritual development of others.
  • Understanding of and strong support for the vision and mission of Ignite Change.
  • A concern for those in both material and spiritual poverty.
  • An ability to develop and communicate the vision and mission of the organization and get others to support such a vision and mission.
  • Effective cross-cultural skills that can empower the poorest individual and communicate effectively with the donors.
  • Humility.
  • A willingness to identify and attract financial resources to Ignite Change.
  • A professional background that would provide skills needed by Ignite Change as it is starting and growing.
  • Ignite Change is one of the top 3 organizations financially supported outside of your local church.

Duties. Though not exhaustive, the following list gives examples of some of the board’s duties:

  1. Praying regularly for the needs of Ignite Change.
  2. Identify and monitor the organization’s mission, purpose and objectives.
  3. Establish short- and long-term vision.
  4. Approval of the strategic plan.

  13. Serve as ambassadors for the organization-interpreting its mission to constituencies and enhancing its public image.
  14. Participation in quarterly meetings with fellow board members and in applicable board subcommittee meetings.
  15. Be informed - read information presented before and at meetings. Generally, this information will come from the nonprofit’s staff, and you must decide whether it is sufficient.

Mission Statement

Following Christ's example of loving and serving others, Ignite Change empowers families to achieve a bright and sustainable future.

Description

Our biggest focus at Ignite Change is working with families. We take the time to get to know the breadwinners and their real struggles - which for most people, physical poverty doesn't fall in the top 3. We teach them the Bible, life skills, and business skills. And through this, they are able to identify an income-generating activity, work hard, and provide for their families. We don't give handouts, instead, we walk alongside families on their journey to becoming self-sustainable.
