2nd and 4th Wednesday Administrative Assistant Helps People who are Blind and Visually Impaired
ORGANIZATION: CENTRAL ILLINOIS CENTER FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED INC
Please visit the new page to apply.
This volunteer is needed to assist the Executive Director in the daily operations of the Center. Duties include answering telephones, receiving deliveries, working with patrons of the Center both in person and by telephone, filing, organizing, scheduling, etc. as requested by the Executive Director. That said, Wednesdays require far more interaction with people who are blind and visually impaired than any other day of the week, because the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month are the dates for our dinner open house. So, you might help our patrons from their transportation to a seat, help serve meals, cut up the meal for someone, and/or help them out to their transportation after the event. You might even be asked to help someone who is blind play a bingo card. Most importantly, Wednesdays are the best days to get to know and help our patrons who are, of course, blind or visually impaired.
Our needs for your time are flexible. If you can, for example, attend only the 2nd Wednesday or cannot arrive until 4pm, we are flexible. Our goal is to ensure we have two people to help the Executive Director every busy Wednesday.
