Grassy Ridge Mow Off

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY

Join the Souhtern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy as they work to maintain the globally rare grassy and shrub balds found on Grassy Ridge, one of the most beautiful and ecologically significant sites in the Roan Highlands. You’ll work alongside dedicated volunteers to cut invasive blackberries and other shrubs using weed whackers and brush cutters. Enjoy great company and even better scenery! The annual Grassy Ridge Mow-Off is more than just a work day - it’s an incredible way to experience in the Highlands of Roan and to share cherished moments with friends.

Backpackers and day trippers are both welcome. The hike is about 2.5 miles one way, the camping is gorgeous, and there is a job suited to almost everyone. There are several different ways to help: cutting or raking blackberries, camp organization and cooking, taking photographs, and more.

This event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday July 21 and will conclude by 1 p.m. Sunday July 22. Please fill out this form to register your participation.

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Description

Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).

Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.

There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
