Overview: L.A. Works Day is a powerful day of action and advocacy. At our second annual Pop-Up service event, hundreds of community and corporate volunteers will join together to learn about and address the critical issues affecting homeless families and youth. Volunteers will leave this festive event inspired by what they have created for their homeless neighbors and empowered with the tools to speak with elected officials and attend their neighborhood council meetings to voice approval for housing.

Program Description: This is a fun, family-friendly event in Santa Monica that includes a kick-off ceremony with celebrities and elected officials, music, food, and a festive volunteer fair.

Impact: Homelessness is a top issue in Los Angeles. There are now more than 57,000 people who lack a "fixed, regular or adequate place to sleep" on any given night in L.A. County. Each of the organizations that will benefit from your volunteer efforts is working to tackle this issue either through housing or by providing resources to families in need.

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: Volunteers should be ready to pack school supplies or sort and tag donated clothing. If you’re interested in a leadership role for the day click here and check out our emerging leadership program that contributes to our large days of service.

Requirements: You will be walking around for this event so please wear comfortable shoes and be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Lunch is generously provided by the Jonathan Club. Coffee and light pastries will also be available in the morning during the kick-off.

Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring a signed copy of the L.A. Works Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. Volunteers under the age of 14 must have a parent/guardian with them. Volunteers under the age of 14 cannot create L.A. Works Accounts so parents/guardians must create a Team to sign up their family.

Time Commitment: In order to participate in the event, volunteers must arrive at 8:30 AM. The event ends at 1:30 PM.

Registration: Bring in your signed general volunteer waiver form or your minor release form to the table labeled "Walk-Ins" and skip the line on L.A. Works Day.
