Nursing Unit - Greeter
Duties:
Start your volunteer experience on a busy nursing unit at St. Luke’s Hospital. In this position you will be a key member of the team. Your role is to provide a warm and welcoming presence at the nurses’ station desk. Build your customer services skills and confidence by providing those little extras to patients and visitors to the unit. By answering phones, call lights, and providing a warm greeting to visitors you put a friendly face on our nursing units specifically and St. Luke’s Hospital in general. This helps both patients and staff. In addition, you will be rounding on patient rooms, restocking supplies and helping with patient discharges. If you are able to converse and feel comfortable with a wide variety of people then this would be a great assignment for you. You also need to have a clear speaking voice and be able to answer phones. Good judgment in making decisions about how to assist patients and visitors and knowing when to direct questions to the appropriate person are also important to this assignment.
Qualifications:
1. Possess a clear speaking voice and the ability to communicate clearly in English. 2. Be comfortable answering phones and directing questions to the appropriate staff member 3. Be comfortable interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds 4. Be able to ascertain when someone needs help and be able to assist them 5. Be comfortable interacting with and know when to seek assistance from staff 6. Be able to walk moderate distances repetitively for up to a 2 hour shift 7. Be able to push a wheelchair and/or Staxi unit 8. Interest in a medical field, such as nursing, is a plus
