Friendship and Hospitality Volunteer

Initiative: Beyond the Basics

Impact Area: Basic needs (food, clothing, housing)

Location: Hartford, CT

Hours: Weekend mornings and afternoons

Desired level of commitment: Once per month, three hours

Duration: Year-round

Age requirement: All ages

Tasks may include:

  • Interacting and conversing with community members at basic needs program/street outreach
  • Providing relational support to people served
In order to volunteer, you should be:
  • A registered Urban Alliance volunteer (you will have a chance to register if you haven’t already)
  • Willing to attend orientation prior to volunteering
  • Willing to submit a background check
  • Open to an ongoing commitment that works with your schedule
  • Skilled interpersonally
  • A good listener
  • Engaging
  • Reliable
  • Patient
  • Open to engaging with people who are facing mental health or substance-abuse struggles
  • Open to engaging with people who are facing homelessness
  • Accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if under 18
  • Spanish-speaking skills a plus
* Volunteers must be of Christian faith to serve with this opportunity.
