EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Family Fun Day is an annual event run by the Center for Families. Our Summer Family Fun Day is an outdoor event (located inside the Peabody School gym if the weather is bad) for families living in Cambridge with children birth-8 years old. We have moon bounces, face painting, arts and crafts, a performer, infant area, bubbles, water play, toddler obstacle course, and more! We also provide a light lunch for families. The event is free for all families.

WHAT WE'LL BE DOING:

Volunteers can choose different stations to help a staff member run. Volunteers can choose based on their interests.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

We generally have around 350 people attend this event. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with young children and their families. The event is outside, so plan to bring a water bottle and a hat. We will provide breaks for volunteers to refill water and take a break from the sun when needed. There is limited shade, but some is provided via tents. We also provide volunteers with a light breakfast and lunch! We will also provide volunteers with a t-shirt to wear.

You must be 21+ to volunteer with One Brick Boston.

Please note
While this event is wheelchair accessible, it will be held outside, rain or shine, and is located in a field with rough terrain.

WHERE TO MEET:

This event is located on Rindge Field in Cambridge, MA. Rindge Field is located behind the Peabody School (70 Rindge Ave. Cambridge). Volunteers can sign-in by entering the Peabody School through the back of the building through door #10. The nearest MBTA stop is the Porter Square station on the Red Line. The Event Manager will provide more details about the meeting location.

THE CENTER FOR FAMILIES: The Center for Families is a family support program that serves families of children ages 0 to 8 in Cambridge. The program receives support and oversight from the citywide Cambridge 0-8 Council composed of parents, caregivers and service providers. The Center for Families, begun in 1994 as an initiative of the Kids' Council, is a part of the Department of Human Services Childcare and Family Support Services Division. The Center for Families program receives funds from city, state and federal sources for the extension of family support activities to all parts of Cambridge. Many activities and services are offered through collaborations with community-based organizations.

Mission Statement

One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

Description

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to support other local non-profits by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event -- which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours -- we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or caf where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.

Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time.
