NEW START Adult Learning Program is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to assist our English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) Teachers at St. Joseph's Parish, one of our satellite locations. There is a Beginning to Low Intermediate ESL class and a High Intermediate to Advanced ESL class. Some teaching or tutoring experience is preferred, but not necessary. On-line tutor training sessions are available.
Time Commitment: Classes meet every Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. The classes will start on September 4, 2019 and will end on May 20, 2020 with various days off in between. There is a long winter break from just before Christmas through January.
Job Duties:
- Follow the lesson plan as per the ESL Teacher.
- Help students complete registration forms.
- Help students meet goals set in place by the program.
- Assist in testing of students.
- Possibly fill in for one of the ESL Teachers if they need to take a day off.

NEW START provides free one-to-one tutoring and small group instruction for adults who want help learning or improving basic skills in reading, writing, and math or for those learning English as a Second Language. Tutors and students meet at community based sites and public libraries throughout New Castle County.
Description
NEW START was founded in 1985 through the efforts of the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, Delaware City Library, and Appoquinimink Library. It is a non-profit educational corporation dedicated to helping adults in New Castle County to better their lives and their communities by improving their reading, writing, math and speaking skills. The main office is located at the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library. The program is funded through grants, corporate and individual contributions, and in-kind services of local libraries and churches. It is one of many family programs sponsored by the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library.
