Audiobook Editor - Volunteer Position

Indiana Voices, a program that produces audiobooks for blind and visually / physically impaired citizens, is looking to fill its new volunteer position of audiobook editor. This position requires that the volunteer work out of the studio located at the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis. This volunteer opportunity will play an important role in speeding up the production of titles to our patrons.

The audiobook editor reviews audio files for errors that have occurred during the recording process and makes needed corrections to these files so that the finished titles can moved along to a final review and to their ultimate completion as a finished audiobook. To serve as an effective audiobook editor individuals need to learn the software needed for editing, and have an ability to multitask, strong reading / listening skills and be detail oriented. Training will be provided for volunteers to assure the candidate with a strong comfort level in the operation of the editing software.

The hours for this position are fairly flexible with volunteers needing to be able to work for two hours blocks of time on a weekly basis. Shifts are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Due to the amount of training needed for success at this task a commitment of at least three months is expected.

Description

The Indiana State Library is responsible for:

  1. Developing and providing library services to state government, its branches, its departments and its officials and employees;
  2. Providing for the individual citizens of the state those specialized library services not generally appropriate, economical or available in other libraries of the state;
  3. Encouraging and supporting the development of the library profession; and
  4. Strengthening services of all types of publicly and privately supported special, school, academic, and public libraries.

Through its history, the Indiana State Library has developed strong collections in the fields of Indiana history and culture, Indiana state government and United States government publications, Indiana newspapers, genealogy and family history resources on Indiana and the eastern United States, Braille, large print, and books on tape for the visually impaired, library science, and American history, politics, and economics. Its collections in these areas support research by state agency employees, scholars, genealogists, librarians, students, Indiana residents who are blind or physically challenged, and the general public. The Library Development Office works to improve and support the libraries of Indiana through assistance, training, and supervising the distribution of state and federal funds.
