ORGANIZATION: NEW START Adult Learning Program

  • 3 people are interested

NEW START Adult Learning Program is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and organized person to teach the High Intermediate to Advanced English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) Class at St. Joseph's Parish, one of our satellite locations. Program books, materials, and curriculum will be provided. Some teaching or tutoring experience is preferred, but not necessary. On-line tutor training sessions are available. Must be comfortable using a computer.

Time Commitment: Classes meet every Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. We are planning to start classes again on September 14, 2020 and will end on May 19, 2021 with various days off in between. There will be a 3 week long Winter Break starting the week of Christmas.

Job Duties:

  • Make lesson plans that align with program curriculum that includes assigning homework to the students from time to time.
  • Make any necessary copies at the designated copier in St. Joseph's or let someone know ahead of time at the NEW START Main Office to do them for you.
  • Help students meet goals put in place by program.
  • Keep track of student attendance hours through Google Sheets on an attendance sheet provided by the NEW START Main Office. These hours go into a student database. Based on your student's post-test score after 60 hours of instruction, your student will receive a certificate if they have gained a skill level.
  • Help with registration and testing during first week of classes.
Side Notes:
  • The Director of NEW START makes visits whenever possible in order to do testing, collect papers, help out, etc.
  • There will be another teacher nearby teaching the Beginner to Low Intermediate ESL class, who taught at this location last year also, and would be able to give guidance if needed.
