Social Work internship in NGO sectors in India

This internship is a great way to support young women and their children in India. The NGO’s you will be interning with provides a home, support and opportunities for the mothers so that they will feel safe, socialize with other girls, women and people of indigenous community and receive education to help prepare them for a life of the project in the long term. You will get involved variety of projects such as teaching, women and youth empowerment, micro credit, micro finance, sewing skills, teaching them sanitary napkins skills, health and hygiene, project writing, administration etc. There are growing numbers of girls aged 10 - 17 becoming pregnant in the rural district of Krishnagiri, Tamilnadu state and also Bangalore city, in Karnataka state. You will be placed depending on the project requirements of the destinations. Abortion is illegal and there is a lack of sex education for young people. Cases of abuse have also become more common (or known about).

The project is run by Kenosis and also local partner organization with help of other international volunteers and internship students, as well as a social worker, a psychologist and a couple of managers and supports to local women self help groups in the villages. The young mothers and young adolescent girls often have no financial or emotional support from their families and the project is striving to create a family environment so that they and their babies can develop and grow. As well as providing basic lessons, teaching the girls about nutrition, hygiene, how to care for their babies, and general household skills the project also wants to develop the business and baking skills of the women future Come and support the growth and impact of this project on vulnerable women and their children.

What are the benefits of interning?

The project offers vulnerable young women and teenage girls the opportunity for a better future while enabling their skills of economic empowerment with health and hygiene programs, workshops and training to build a better livelihood opportunities, safe environment, and interns' participation helps enable this to happen. The young women will benefit from learning new skills through intern-run activities, as well as the opportunity to practice using a second language. In this process, they will not gain insight into the challenges facing the project and its beneficiaries. This is an inviting opportunity for interns to learn skills needed to work as a social worker and by helping others, which is also a great addition to any CV / Resume.

Role of the intern

  • Volunteers and Interns can bring their own skills and ideas to the NGO especially if they have experience of working with young mothers and young girls or babies.
  • There are a number of activities in which interns will get involved including baby care, providing basic English lessons, running lessons for the girls in topics such as hygiene, nutrition etc (based on needs identified by the project), organizing exercise classes such as dance and yoga, teaching general house chores and meal preparation, assisting develops the skills of the girls so that they can generate their own income.

Skills Required

  • No particular skills are required to participate in this project.
  • However, volunteers with a background in childcare, working with young mothers or with cooking skills will find their skills in much demand. A basic level of English is useful to enable volunteers, the mothers and their children to get the most out of this placement.

All you need to do is, apply online and reserve your placement at the earliest. We expect participants reserve his or her seats before 2-3 months or latest by 1-2 months as your visa process takes longer than expected duration and timing. It’s by making deposit out of your total program fee. No scholarship or stipend or free food and accommodation provided in any our placement as we are not a funded organization. We depend on volunteers because we do not have such funds to manage our daily operation of program and administration cost as its huge cost for us.

Description

Kenosis Foundation (KF) is a not-for-profit voluntary organization, registered (Reg # 166/2013-2014) on 29th June 2013, under Sec.7 of the Indian Trusts Act 1882. We focus on rural areas and support women and the children of widows, single moms, abuse victims, victims of physical harassment, and disadvantaged, underprivileged and the economically weaker sections of society. Our head office is located in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka State, India.

We identify poorest of the poor rural villages and work for causes ranging from child welfare, health and education, economic empowerment for women, creating employment opportunities for dropout and underprivileged youths, health and hygiene in communities and schools, After School Programs, Women Self Help Groups (SHG’s), Teach English and Computer, Bio-organiz forming, Animal healthcare, Solidwaste management, building and renovation of beneficiaries homes and schools, youth vocational skill training, organize campaign and training, summer and health camps, life skills education in rural villages and schools, Renovation of beneficiaries house and construction of toilet, women's empowerment and empowering women to start self business and income generating (IGP) activities. Kenosis is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in rural India.
