As a volunteer, teach English and other subjects to children of rural and disadvantaged poor to stand on their own feet.

One of the most significant problems for young people in India relates to a lack of education. While the population is more than intelligent, there aren’t enough opportunities for everyone to thrive. Our teaching English programs are designed to turn that situation around and let volunteers use their skills to change the lives of these disadvantaged students.

If teaching English has been your passion, you will enjoy teaching the language as a a volunteer or students intern. As an English teacher you will enjoy working in partner institutions and on independent projects.

You will find students who are eager to learn, learners who are excited to be taught by foreigners and in a conducive learning environment. The atmosphere is quite good, you will love it and it will be an exciting time helping the children polishes their skills in English and at the same time improving your English teaching skills.

Most of the students are from disadvantaged and impoverished rural and slums of Bangalore and hilly Mountains ranges of Krishnagiri district of Tamilnadu state, who has not a sound knowledge of English. Here volunteers work with a specific aim and their work is to reach the desired goal. The village is located 85 kms from Bangalore, and board, lodging and transfer provided by Kenosis within the fee you pay to us.

Most of the schools in the villages have a small number of students; therefore you will not be exhausted as happens in learning institutions with higher numbers of learners. The numbers are manageable and again the students are eager to learn. You can get involved in local schools to teach English to students of 6 th grade to 12 th grade, who are 8 years to 17 years and also you can teach local school teachers to build their basic knowledge on English to read, write, speak and continue the work that you started as a volunteer.

They appreciate being taught by native English speakers, they learn the language in an original setting unlike in their rural setting where it is influenced by the local accents.

You do not have to be an English teacher to volunteer in this program, given that it is only an attempt to give the children a different perspective of the language, one is not required to offer an in-depth knowledge of English grammar, all that is needed is accuracy and a willingness to motivate the children to improve their English speaking, reading and writing skills.

Study materials are provided in the Kenosis Foundation (KF) volunteer house but for those who may have their own, they are encouraged to bring them along.

Working as an English teacher in India is an opportunity to sharpen your skills and also help the less privileged children in society. It is also an opportunity to inspire children, and motivate them to learn the language and also work hard in their studies. Children love to learn from a foreign individual. Volunteers teach them with fun, so they feel more interest in English.

To be a volunteer as an English teacher, you need a sound knowledge of English grammar. Also, need the interest to meet with new children and people. As an individual, if you want to start as an English teacher in India, it is so easy. This is also an excellent opportunity for you to improve your skills too.

As a teaching volunteer you can improve teaching skills and build your career in teaching field through different education settings in India.
