Lexington Rescue Mission is seeking qualified candidates for a mentor coordinator position that will expand and strengthen our base of volunteer mentors who ensure ex-offenders have adequate support to secure housing and, ultimately, make a smooth transition back to the community. This is an AmeriCorps VISTA position though the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky's Homes for All program. Candidates must be willing and able to commit to one year of full-time service (40 hours per week), starting on July 23, 2018. The annual living stipend is $12,227, and VISTAs also receive an education award of $5,920 upon successful completion of the program.

Responsibilities:

  1. Strengthen a communication system that effectively bridges the gap between volunteer mentors and staff.

  2. Improve the services we provide to ex-offenders at risk of homelessness by training our volunteers.

  3. Recruit volunteers to serve in Breaking Chains, our ex-offender re-entry program, as mentors.

Qualifications:

Personal: Self-starter, strong team player, connects with people, able to manage multiple priorities, and is passionate about the ministry of the Lexington Rescue Mission.

Education and Experience: Associates or Bachelor's degree and previous experience working with volunteers is preferred. Supervisory experience is helpful.

Knowledge: Understanding of effective volunteer management practices.

Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to manage individual volunteers and groups of volunteers; and ability to develop and implement short-term and long-range plans. Driving for Mission business within Central Kentucky is required.
