Call for Adoptions From The Heart Board Members

Adoptions From The Heart is seeking one or two dedicated and involved professionals to join our Board of Directors. While the bi-monthly meetings are held in-person in our Wynnewood, PA location, we are seeking board member candidates extending outside of Philadelphia area through New Jersey, Delaware, Central Pa and Allentown Areas. We are looking to add to our board’s current diversity of backgrounds and professions. We are particularly interested in candidates with knowledge and drive to assist in events and fundraising. About Us

Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH) is a non-profit adoption agency. Since 1985, the mission of AFTH has been to provide safe and loving homes for children and offer quality, comprehensive services to families, birth parents and children. We work to maintain standards and policies that are consistent with applicable child welfare policies and laws. Through educational, counseling and support programs, we help strengthen families, support birth parents and educate the community. The Agency’s mission also extends out into the community at large by providing financial support to families and children in need and helping to educate the public by providing trainings to hospitals, clinics, schools and social workers.

AFTH was founded in 1985 by Maxine Chalker, our Executive Director. Maxine, herself an adoptee, wanted to give adoption a new face by breaking down the barriers and taking some of the mystery out of the adoption process. Keeping in mind the needs of all members of the adoption triad, (birth parents, adoptive parents, and adopted children), she began the first "open" adoption agency on the East Coast. Today AFTH is licensed in six states and has staff and offices in PA, NJ, DE, CT, VA, and NY. To learn more about AFTH’s services, visit www.afth.org.

Board Member Requirements Include:

• Prepare for and attend in board meetings, held every other month from 4-5:30pm in Wynnewood, PA
• Make a minimum contribution of $400 annually
• Avoid and disclose possible conflict of interest
• Be available to attend and promote agency sponsored events and fundraisers

Role of Board Members Include:

• Committing to the agency’s mission, values, and goals
• Create and/or approve policies to support the agency’s mission
• Review and approve annual budget, investments and agency fees
• Assist with the agency’s fundraising efforts
• Assist in identifying and approaching corporate, foundation, or individual contributors
• Be available to offer occasional ad hoc advice to senior staff in area of personal expertise
• Represent the organization and introduce its services to professional colleagues and friends
• Follow trends relevant to the organization’s field of interest
• Suggest nominees for the board
• Participate on and or chair a board committee
