Hospice Volunteers have an opportunity to impact another person's life at a critical time. They enhance the quality of life for terminally patients and their families. Your role will be to provide companionship, a listening ear and a caring heart.

Duties include: Friendly visits to patients in their homes or nursing homes. Visits can include talking about shared interests, playing a game, reading, playing or listening to music, or simply providing a comforting presence. Some volunteers sit with patients to provide a brief respite for caregivers or perform light housekeeping or yard work, This is a meaningful and flexible volunteer opportunity, with many ways to share your own unique gifts.

Why become a hospice volunteer:

Hospice volunteers are a crucial part of the hospice experience and are valued by patients and families for the personal touch they bring to an emotional process. Hospice volunteers report feeling that they are making a contribution to the community and doing a service they would hope others would do for them in their time of need.

Volunteers help hospice patients in a variety of ways. In addition to providing companionship and support to patients and families, they can:

  • Provide Veteran-to Veteran support through pinning ceremonies and visits
  • Provide Bereavement support to families
  • Improve patients' comfort with Reiki, yoga, healing arts
  • Brighten a patient's day by bringing a certified dog along for a pet visit
  • Share their talents- through music, crafting and other artistic activities
  • Lend support in our administrative office

We have opportunities available throughout Northeast Ohio that include: Stark, Summit, Portage, Medina, Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain Counties.

Training and orientation are provided to help all volunteers feel comfortable in their roles. No healthcare experience is needed.

Time Commitment: Even if you have just one hour a month to share please consider joining Absolute Hospice and help us provide comfort, care, and compassion to those we serve during their final season of life.
