Cooking as a Second Language, Kitchen Volunteers
This is a chance for volunteers who love food and enjoy talking about cooking, cuisine and culture. These classes are held once monthly at HI Boston, and they are designed as interactive cooking workshops that help guests to discover another culture through that culture's food. Volunteers support the facilitator and guest chefs. They guide participants in food preparation, assist in managing group conversations, and work with the facilitator to make sure the workshop runs smoothly (including some clean up at the end).
Time commitment: 3-4 hours for workshop, 30 minutes for prep with facilitator prior. Total: 3.5 to 4 hours
Upcoming dates: June 23 rd (Jamaican), August 4 (African cuisine), September 8 (Italian), potentially July 21st
The benefits of volunteering with HI USA include:
- Meet new people from all over the world, including travelers, staff, and fellow volunteers
- Work to increase understanding and tolerance by helping people break down cultural barriers
- Help travelers to the community have a great travel experience
- Build skills in public speaking, foreign languages, intercultural communication and more!
