Is your heart filled with enough love and patience to give your time to visit people with end stage Alzheimer’s? If you answered, "Yes," well, we have a place for you on our team!

Brookdale Hospice supports patients with any life-ending disease, but we do have a concentration dealing with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. We are looking for individuals who are comfortable interacting with, and supporting, patients with Alzheimer’s.

In general, Brookdale Hospice assists patients, and their family, facing a life-ending disease. As a patient declines, they, and their family, experience many expected and surprising changes, that can make most involved unsettled and anxious. We also know that they can just use extra help during the time they are journeying their last months, weeks and days together.

Volunteers 1) bring a sense of calm, providing family caregivers a break, 2) lend an ear, allowing much needed venting and emotional support, and 3) are present, so patients and family members are not alone during this sensitive time. For those that we care for who live in a nursing facility, volunteers visit to engage, distract, support, advocate for, and, to just be present to them during their decline, whatever the situation dictates at the time of the visit. (Sometimes it is all of those things at once!) Our hospice believes that no one should die alone.

Brookdale Hospice brings their special kind of care throughout Berks, Bucks, Chester and Montgomery Counties. However, as a volunteer, you will travel to only those places that you are willing to go to.

Volunteers are mainly asked to serve as friendly visitors, provide respite visits, or sit vigil, among other requests. We welcome participation from those who can offer special skills, like cosmetology, message, Reiki (or other Energy Modalities), Pet Therapy and Art Therapy.
