The Village Movement Mentoring Program provides group mentoring to selected LAUSD schools for young men and women. One of the goals of the program is to expose young people to role models who look like them and who have overcome many of the challenging circumstances that our young people currently face. Another goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and strategies that will enable them to be college-prepared and career-ready.

Village Movement Mentoring Sessions take place two times per month at school sites.

Mission Statement

The Village Movement Mentoring Program provides group mentoring to selected LAUSD schools for young men and women. One of the goals of the program is to expose young people to role models who look like them and who have overcome many of the challenging circumstances that our young people currently face. Another goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and strategies that will enable them to be college-prepared and career-ready. The Student Unit is looking for volunteers to mentor elementary thru high school students twice per month at their school sites.

Description

The Student Unit is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District's (LAUSD) Division of Instruction. LAUSD is the second largest school district in the country and provides educational services to a diverse population which includes over 600,000 students and their parents.
The goal of the Student Unit is to increase student voice by ensuring that students have the power to inform, influence and shape reforms, policies and practices that reflect the realities, needs, and solutions of students, as stated by students. The Unit’s staff works to ensure that students have multiple and varied leadership roles as well as opportunities to partner with adults to create safe, healthy, supportive school cultures and communities. The Unit also partners with District offices, schools sites, and community organizations to improve student learning and academic achievement through increased student involvement, leadership development and engagement.
