Come volunteer in the Chatham Habitat ReStores! We have two stores, one offering home furnishings and furniture, and the other providing appliances, building supplies, and hardware. All items are donated, and the proceeds go toward helping build houses for our future homeowners. As a volunteer, you can work on the store floor, at the registers, or helping price items. ReStore volunteers will have an initial orientation, and the shifts are adjustable to fit into your schedule.

We are offering individual orientations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10am. Before orientation, new volunteers must do the following:

Sign up in advance at chathamhabitat.volunteerhub.com AND do an initial screening call to go over Covid-19 policies and procedures.

Please contact Rachel Horowitz (rachelh@chathamhabitat.org, 919-542-0794) with any questions.

Mission Statement

Chatham Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

Description

Chatham Habitat for Humanity (CHFH), an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has been an active part of Chatham County since 1989 when volunteers in the community noticed the growing need for decent, safe, affordable housing. We have completed over 100 houses.

Families are approved for a Habitat home based on their need, their ability to commit to a mortgage, and their willingness to contribute at least 350 hours of labor or sweat equity.

Over 300 Chatham County residents have benefited from moving into a safe, decent Habitat home. Many children in these homes previously lived in housing with rotting floors and ceilings, inadequate or nonexistent indoor plumbing, no heat and faulty wiring. Some families have previously lived in neighborhoods of violence and drug activity. The solution to poverty housing is through the empowerment of individuals, families and communities.
