ORGANIZATION: Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay, Inc.

We have a great volunteer opportunity for 12-15 people to build a fence around a community garden on Saturday, June 23 rd at 9am.

The garden is at J. L. Young Apartments (8220 N Florida Ave, Tampa 33604). J.L. Young Apartments is subsidized housing for low income seniors, allowing them to continue to live independently as long as possible. The garden itself was built with the help of some USF students and now they want to make sure they will be able to bear the fruits of their labor. The fence will help protect against critters and environmental elements. The seniors will be thrilled to have the support of volunteers in protecting their garden, providing fresh, nutritious veggies for them! Please let us know if you're interested.

Description

Programs Offered Through Seniors in Service:


Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)

  • The Foster Grandparent Program recruits senior volunteers (55+) to go into schools and after-school programs to mentor at-risk and special needs children and provide them with one-on-one, individualized attention


Senior Companion Program (SCP)

  • The Senior Companion Program recruits senior volunteers (55+) to go into the homes of homebound, elderly clients and provide them with companionship and assistance.


Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

  • The RSVP Program recruits senior volunteers(55+) to participate more fully in the life of the community through volunteer service. The program matches the considerable wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience of this vital and rapidly growing age group with the addressing of critical needs and unresolved issues in our community.


Operation Veteran Connect

  • Provides companionship to veterans, enabling them to live independently. Supports the VA in supporting providing Whole Health support to veterans.
