Become a GED Navigator! GED Navigators are a mix of mentor, coach, cheerleader, guidance counselor, and tutor. GED Navigators help students one-on-one in a variety of ways, from helping them increase their confidence and persistence in school to assisting them in identifying and attaining their goals.
GED Navigators at Open Door Learning Center - Arlington Hills:
- Help students identify academic and career goals and support them in those goals
- Help students overcome barriers that may prevent them from reaching goals with the support of other navigators and the learning center coordinator
- Help English Language Learners with academic English skills
- Coach students as they make progress on Individualized Learning Plans in the four test areas of the GED (Social Studies, Math, Science, Reading and Language Arts)
- Present short lessons to help students solve common test questions
- Help students navigate online learning programs in GED subject areas
- Cheer students on through difficult times
- Provide a bridge from one step to the next
Location: Open Door Learning Center - Arlington Hills, 1115 Greenbrier Street, Saint Paul, MN 55106
Time commitment: Choose one 2-4 hour shift/wk: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (direct support) or Friday, 9 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (administrative support optional)
Training is provided. A minimum three month commitment is preferred for all volunteers.

Description
Founded in 1972, Literacy Minnesota is Minnesota's only non-profit, volunteer-based, education provider that operates statewide. Through a network of over 100 community and school-based programs, we provide free classes for individuals lacking the most basic reading, writing and English-speaking skills. We serve both native-born Americans and refugees and immigrants.
