Interested in changing legislation to save lives? Then, the High School Association of Medical Engineers and Scientists, Inc., (HAMES) has a volunteer opportunity for you! HAMES is a national non-profit organization consisting of prestigious young adults who would like to pursue a career in healthcare. HAMES has always had a mission: to improve lives with education. One such mission was the Student Samaritan Initiative. The Student Samaritan Initiative has two objectives.
1). Team up with local schools to challenge these statistics, by providing quality training to students through hands-on simulations and fun and interactive learning modules using state-of-the-art training equipment.
Our goal is to train at least one school in every New Jersey County
2). To petition the State of New Jersey to amend the NJ Assembly Bill 2072, to establish a policy where high school students must submit proof of CPR training along with their Probationary Driver's Permit application. It is our hope that with this enactment, New Jerseyans will be comforted to a high degree with the guaranteed assurance that the entire generation of new drivers have received quality training in the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an AED.
And we Succeeded! We are currently in the process of working with the NJ government in order to make this bill a reality. But we still need your help. We are looking to take on new healthcare legislative projects.
To do this, we need your help. Volunteers in this position will research the legislative aspect of our mission in order to better achieve our mission. We need high school students with excellent research skills, as well as good writing ability. This position entails a regular commitment online on a weekly basis, up to 3 hours per week. However, through this position, you will work on legislation that will save lives.
