The Good Neighbor Center

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 181 people are interested

The Good Neighbor Center has recently begun holding in-person programming again to help assist our young people as they prepare to go through another distanced school term. The majority of the young people we serve come from an immigrant or refugee background, and many have English as a Learned Language. As such, many parents are not able to help their children with homework because they have not had the opportunity to learn english the way their children have. GNC is working to help our young people practice the academic and life skills that they may have lost or forgotten in the past 6 months out of school by holding safe, physically distanced in-person programming for young people to practice those skills.

We hold programming from 6:30pm-8:30pm every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening, with a meal served to participants and volunteers (if desired) from 6:30-7pm. We need volunteers on all evenings to tutor our young people in grades K-12+!

To make the program as safe as possible, all participants and volunteers will be temperature checked upon entry. Masks are required inside the building, and hands are sanitized or washed upon entry. The young people have assigned spots that are distanced 6ft apart, and additional barriers are available for tutors when they are working near a young person.

We generally do a lot of homework help, as well as activities that encourage learning and literacy, and we have a multitude of resources that are available for use with the young people. Come check us out and make a difference in your community! All are welcome here.
