Through rigorous academics, within a structured and joyful school community, Aster College Preparatory Charter School educates scholars in grades five through eight for success in high school, college, and life.

Description

Aster College Prep is a proposed, tuition-free, 5th - 8th grade public charter school designed for the students and families of Memphis. Pending approval from Shelby County Schools, our school will open in August 2019, but the work has already begun. We need your help.

In our proposed territory, ONLY 10% of middle school students are reading on grade level. That means in a class of 30, TWENTY-SEVEN are failing. This is unjust.

We have traveled across the country to study and learn from some of the highest performing schools what works best to place students in underserved communities on the path to college. We refuse to believe that any 5th grade student - regardless of past performance in school - has their fate sealed when they enter 5th grade; therefore, we work urgently to help students catch up, keep up, and then get ahead.

We are looking for individuals to assist with the following:

brainstorming family engagement ideas
tabling and canvassing to help bring awareness of our proposed school to families
assisting with community events
making connections with performing arts organizations
assisting with fundraising events
recruiting governing board members
marketing
Spanish communication/translation
