Position Title:

Housing Locator

Purpose of the Position:

The Accelerator YMCA is the social services branch of the Y of Greater Seattle. We provide holistic support to young people and their families who have experienced trauma to help them become safe, successful, and happy.

One of the services we provide to our participants is housing assistance. We are currently looking for a volunteer to help out with our Rapid Rehousing Program. This position would involve administrative work, communication and community outreach along with recruitment skills.

Position Description:

Here are some of the specific tasks needed:

  • New Landlord Research: Using Craigslist, Google and other apartment search websites to locate new landlords that have affordable units.
  • Organizing the Landlord List: Checking and updating the contact information for landlords and properties in the database property list.
  • Landlord Appreciation: Writing thank you cards to current landlords and mailing these, in addition to calling landlords and thanking them over the phone.

Time Commitment

  • Flexible, long-term opportunity
  • Must be available during the week (M-F 9am-5pm)

Requirements:

  • Weekday availability
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • A positive attitude and patience
  • Experience with data entry and other admin-based skills
  • Team player

Preferred Qualifications

  • An understanding of homelessness in King County
  • Experience/knowledge of the housing market
  • Experience/knowledge of real estate industry or leasing agencies
  • Experience with housing or rental research
  • Comfortable make "cold calls" to prospective landlords
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
