Wildlife comes to Appalachian Wild from all over WNC and beyond. To get them into the hands of wildlife rehabilitation experts, volunteers pick up wildlife and deliver them to Appalachian Wild's facility, other rehabilitation centers and home based rehabilitators for continued care.
Being a "wildlife ambulance" is a necessary and rewarding part of the rehabilitation process. Volunteers are asked to commit to picking up at least 1 transport per month during our 'baby season' (March-September) or a total of 6 transports per year. Personal mode of transportation and GPS or other means of directions is required.

Mission Statement
Appalachian Wildlife Refuge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that coordinates wildlife rehabilitation efforts in Western North Carolina by providing care for injured and orphaned wildlife, supporting the wildlife rehabilitation network, and offering conservation education to the community.
Description
Appalachian Wild was formed in 2014 to help with the increasing number of native wild animals in crisis in our region. Partnering with local home-based wildlife rehabilitators and specialized facilities, the organization provides rescue, triage, transport, and education. The wildlife rehabilitation facility opened in July 2018 and is expected to serve over 2,000 animals annually. The organization is a community resource to help our native wildlife and give them a second chance at life in the wild.
