Volunteer at the Lanier Family Resource Center! Lanier Early College High School is a community school. As part of our school, we have a Family Resource Center where we are able to provide wraparound family services and adult education. We look forward to working with you!
Here are a few of the options available:
Event volunteers:
- An event volunteer helps out at different FRC events, such as Futbol Rapido Resource Fair, Coats for Kids, Blue Santa, fan distribution, community planning meetings or Thanksgiving.
- Great for volunteers who need evening or weekend volunteer opportunities.
- Anyone can be an event volunteer, all ages, availability levels, languages, and roles in the community welcome.
- A mentor meets on a regular basis with a student
- Great for committed, responsible adult volunteers. Great for people who live or work in the area.
- They can be a career mentor or a supportive mentor depending on their interest and comfort level
- Welcome to register through APIE at the FRC
- English: A tutor can sign up for either Friday tutoring for the early college students
- Spanish: they can be a GPA tutor at 2:30pm on a day they prefer
- Cannot be afraid to tutor college students
- Welcome to register for APIE at FRC
- These volunteers come to the FRC and help make personal invitations via the phone about different events in the community
- This is a great role for someone who wants to volunteer on a regular or semi-regular basis.
- Great for someone who wants to make their own volunteer schedule.
- Someone who wants to do this role but either does not speak Spanish or cannot come into the FRC can volunteer by helping to pass out flyers in the community
ETO volunteer:
- This person assists with data entry
- Great for first year social work students who need their 40 volunteer hours, computer science or information science students who want to learn more about non-profits
- English speaking volunteers are great for this role, as the data system itself is in English.
- Assists office staff with any administrative help they might need.
- Good for anyone who likes office type work.
- Also good if they want to make their own schedule and can work during the school day
- Helps with putting up flyers in the neighborhood, passing out flyers to cars in the pickup line, shredding documents and organizing FRC
- Great for a first year social work student who needs their 40 hours. Ideally this is combined with being an ETO volunteer.
- If shredding or otherwise seeing personal information, a non-community member would be most appropriate
- After being one of the other volunteer types, a volunteer leader can create their own role with the assistance of the FRC director.
- This also includes anyone who would like to be a leader of volunteers, for example running a phone tree, or being the head of a group of volunteers at an event
- If none of the above volunteer roles work for a potential volunteer, they can also work with the FRC director and other staff to come up with a good fit. Volunteers who want to do this should come with ideas, but be understanding of the needs of the organization and community
