Science Demands Action (SDA) is looking for volunteers to help with the Buffalo Science Fest at Canalside on July 14th! We have many different opportunities available for the day of the event and have flexible time slots.
This event will be a great opportunity for children and adults alike to interact with 30+ local organizations in health, environment, science, and policy. There will be hands on activities, demonstrations, and information about volunteer opportunities and events.
The theme for the Fest is "How can Science help you? How can you help science?"
Our goal is to:
- Engage the Buffalo community in a discussion about the role of science in our personal lives, our community, and our country.
- Raise awareness about the organizations, aid, and opportunities across Buffalo.
- Generate excitement about science.
- Advocate for evidence-based policy.

Mission Statement
SDA’s mission is to guide communities in using science for social good.
Description
SDA is a newly incorporated volunteer run non-profit created by the planning committees of the first annual Buffalo March for Science that took place on April 22 nd, 2017 in Delaware Park.
Core Values:
Scientific Literacy: We know that a practical knowledge of the scientific process helps communities make better personal and political choices.
Evidence-Based Policy: We know that the best policies are not created by political ideologies or media talking points. We advocate for legislation that successfully utilizes relevant information across fields.
Diversity: We know that diverse voices working together create better strategies, policies, and action. Inclusion makes us all stronger.
Grassroots Community Organizing: We know that amplifying community voices encourages participation in all levels of government.
Integrated Disciplines: We know that collaboration over competition allows us to learn from one another and devise creative solutions.
True Dialogue: We know that the practice of science should be accessible, transparent, and accountable to communities. This means active listening, accurate reporting, and responsive research.
Nonpartisanship: We know that strong policy decisions transcend political parties. We seek to speak meaningfully to influence policy, rather than politics.
