Help Our Neighbors In Need

Welcome Friends has an immediate and critical need for volunteer drivers to pick up food donations from Long Island Cares in Hauppauge and deliver them to soup kitchen sites in the Greater Port Jefferson area. This placement involves a commitment of a morning pick-up and delivery to one soup kitchen location, once or twice a month. Morning pick up times are flexible.

You will need a vehicle and be able to handle heavy packages.

Mission Statement

For over 30 years, our outstanding volunteers have addressed hunger in the Greater Port Jefferson and surrounding communities. Our soup kitchens have dynamic relationships with individual supporters, local food markets, farm stands, religious institutions, community leaders and local government. Welcome Friends strives to ensure that our guests need not fear the loss of meals. We create a sense of community for neighbors affected by hunger and poverty by serving them with dignity and respect in a safe, hospitable environment.

Description

Welcome Friends provides hot, nutritious meals four days a week in the Greater Port Jefferson community. We typically serve between 50 to 70 guests each night (3,000+ annually!). We are a 100% volunteer staffed organization, so every donation goes directly to serving our neighbors in need.

***We do not serve a meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas***
