ORGANIZATION: Louisville Metro Housing Authority

ConnectHomeUSA creates a platform for community leaders, local governments, nonprofit organizations, and private industry to join together and produce locally-tailored solutions for narrowing the digital divide. 60 Million Americans do not have basic digital literacy, a home computer or internet access. This "Digital Divide" mostly affects families earning less than $25k/year, individuals without high school diplomas, and communities of color; this AmeriCorps VISTA project aims to diminish this gap amongst families and individuals living in HUD-assisted housing. Serving at the Louisville Metro Housing Authority, the VISTA member will link HUD-assisted households with low-cost home Internet, free digital literacy trainings and refurbished lap top and desk top computers.

The VISTA member will work in a variety of areas such as: computer refurbishing and repair, developing computer and internet instruction manuals, expanding the computer donation and refurbishment program, developing and managing social media sites, establishing computer labs at public housing sites, collecting and managing data, building new community partnerships in order to help form sustainability for the ConnectHomeUSA program.
