Food Pantry Volunteers Needed!

St. Petersburg Free Clinic is looking for volunteers to assist in our We Help Services Program & Food Pantry!

We Help Services provides emergency food and financial assistance to our neighbors in need throughout Pinellas County!

Once Covid-19 began spreading through our community in March of 2020, St Petersburg Free Clinic quickly began adapting our programs so we could continue to serve our neighbors in need. One big change that took place was transitioning our food pantry from a client choice model inside, to a drive thru food pantry outside in the parking lot. The drive thru is minimal contact, with volunteers loading food into the trunks of vehicles. This volunteer opportunity does involve lifting weights from 10-40 pounds.

While this volunteer opportunity does take place outside, we do have a giant event tent set up in our parking lot to provide shade and we do have fans to help keep our volunteers as comfortable as possible while they provide food assistance to our neighbors in need.

If being outside isn't your thing we also need help sorting donations inside at our food bank. We receive large amounts of bread, desserts, canned goods, non-perishables, etc that need to be sorted and packed to be distributed at our drive thru food pantry. The shifts are usually 3 hours on Mondays and Fridays 9am-12pm. The food bank is located at 3115 44th Ave N.

**Volunteers are required to wear masks at all times when volunteering.

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 3 months of volunteer service.

Shifts are available on a weekly, 4 hour shift, basis.

MORNING SHIFTS:
Monday - Thursday: 8AM-12PM
AFTERNOON SHIFTS:
Monday-Thursday 11:30-3:30PM
EVENING SHIFT: Thursdays 3-7PM

Mission Statement

With compassion and respect, St. Pete Free Clinic changes lives by providing health care, nutritious food, recovery housing, and education for our neighbors in need.

Description

Social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. They include factors like socioeconomic status, education, housing, employment, and access to healthcare. Communities that adequately address social determinants of health experience health equity, wherein no one is "disadvantaged from achieving their potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances (CDC.gov)."

St. Pete Free Clinic’s (SPFC’s) programs support health equity by providing nutritious food for those who need it, increasing access to healthcare, and increasing access to housing for those experiencing housing insecurity and substance use challenges.

Additionally, SPFC’s range of programs reduce the economic burdens of Pinellas County’s low-income and Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) population by providing services that lower monthly out-of-pocket expenditures, contribute to savings and long-term economic stability, and support long-term individual and family wellness.
