  • Medical Volunteers (3-4 vols) (Must have a medical cert.) - We are looking for folks who are medically trained (first aid certified, EMT, paramedic, RN, NP, PA, DO, MD) to help out with any folks who may injure themselves. Injuries that usually occur are simple knicks and scrapes and bug bites. If you have any questions on whether or not your certification or training applies, please feel free to reach out.
  • Food Runners (2 vols) (MUST HAVE CAR) - Help us pick up the last of our delicious donations! Exact times are TBD but it will be earlier in the morning.
  • Brunch Set Up (2 vols) - We are looking for folks to help us create a fancy breakfast and snack spread. You will be responsible for restocking items as they run low, making sure folks are tossing items into the correct bins, and also enjoying some of the breakfast snacks yourself! You will also help transition from breakfast to lunch. 7:30am-11am
  • Hike Info Table (2 vols) - You will be providing the details of what to expect to the hikers, such as a map, any rattlesnake warnings, double checking that they have checked in, and let them know about the guided hike times. 7:30am-11am
  • Parking Lot Flaggers (4 vols) - Come spend a beautiful day on Mt. Tam helping us make sure Summer SunDay participant s park in the right place. There will be two shifts that require two people for each. You'll be standing in place for about two hours, but I promise you it'll be an awesome arm workout. 7:30am-11am
  • Parking Lot Ushers (4 vols) - If you are really into Tetris and maximizing space, this is the task for you! You must be comfortable with directing people and gently correcting terrible parking. There will be two shifts that require two people for each. 7:30am-11am
  • Rest Stop #1 - West Point Inn (2 vols) - You'll be stationed at the first Rest Stop on the mountain, where you will be handing out water and snacks to the hikers as they make their way both up and down the mountain. Your shift would be from 8am-2:30 pm.
  • Rest Stop #2 - Visitor Center (2 vols) - You'll be stationed under the peak, you'll be providing a boost of energy to hikers climbing to the top and motivation on their way back down to finish the hike. Your shift would be from 8:30am-2:15 pm.
  • Hiker Return Station (3-4 vols) 11am-3pm - Must be high-energy, loves giving high-fives, and very enthusiastic. The last leg of the hike is all uphill, so hikers really appreciate having people supporting and cheering them on as they cross the finish line. Kids are welcome to join, as they usually are the best high-fives. You will be collecting wristbands from hikers, that way we are sure that no one is left behind.
  • Picnic (3-4 vols) 11am-3pm - Missed the brunch set up but still a foodie? We have an awesome picnic made up of all of the awesome and delicious food that we have gotten donated!
  • Incentive Pick up and Thank You Bags (3 vols) 11am-3pm - The gift that keeps on giving, if you have an amazing smile and love talking to people, this would be a great task!
  • Sign Sweepers (4 vols, 2 for each trail) [very physical] 11am-3pm - Want to hike but not get up early? We need two people each for the 3 and 8-mile routes to pick up signs. It is important that you are able to patiently wait behind groups of people to allow them to stay on track and finish the hike. This will be best for a dynamic duo, as you will be under the mid-day heat.

About AT THE CROSSROADS

Location:

167 Jessie St., SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94105, US

Mission Statement

At The Crossroads reaches out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives. By bringing our services directly onto the streets, we cultivate long-term, unconditional relationships with young people who would otherwise be disconnected from consistent support. We empower our clients to accomplish their individual goals, build community, pursue their passions, and find their own paths to happiness and stability. We believe that there are no limits to what our clients can achieve, and that everyone deserves the chance to build an outstanding life.

Description

In 1997, ATC was founded by Rob Gitin and Taj Mustapha after they received an Echoing Green Fellowship to start a program for underserved homeless youth. They designed ATC’s nighttime outreach program to serve these disconnected young people and bring support directly to them, without lots of paperwork and long wait times. In May 2018 Charles Lerner joined our team as our new Executive Director. Under Charles’ leadership, ATC published its first-ever ad campaign, completed a strategic planning process that resulted in three strategic directions for 2020-2023, and launched a project to create a theory of change model that will guide our work moving forward. After 24 years, meeting youth where they are at and providing them with unconditional support still remains the foundation of At The Crossroads’ work. To this day, we have never kicked a single client out of our program.

Based on over two decades of experience, we know that building long-term caring relationships with the most disconnected young people on the streets results in the following outputs:

  • Increased trust and comfort in ATC’s counselors over time.
  • Increased access to food and essential supplies that help clients think beyond survival mode.
  • Increased achievement of individual goals related to housing, mental and physical health needs, and school or employment.
