ORGANIZATION: Family HomeStead

Title of Position: Workday Supervisor

Accountable to: Family HomeStead Director of Volunteers and Development

Duties: Serve as volunteer staff to supervise group work projects on Family HomeStead housing units. Usual projects include painting and cleaning units. Yard work and overall site maintenance projects are also sometimes scheduled. Supervisors must be able to "walk the project" with Family HomeStead staff and the team captain for the group several days prior to the event at a mutually agreed-upon time during standard business hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Other duties include basic set-up the day of the project; orientation of the group to the project at hand; general supervision of work; and supervision of clean-up.

Physical Capabilities: Volunteers must be able to perform moderate physical labor and possess general good health and stamina. The ability to lift a full five-gallon paint container is necessary.

Qualities: Supervisors must be organized, articulate, flexible, punctual, and enjoy working with people. General "do-it-yourself" experience and a sense of humor are a plus. Reliable transportation is required.

Time Commitment: Projects are conducted during daytime hours both on weekdays and weekends, usually on Saturday. Volunteers are generally asked to supervise a project a minimum of several weeks in advance and are free to accept or decline any specific invitation. Projects are mostly four to six hours in duration. Supervisors should budget approximately one hour on-site before the project and one hour after. "Walking the project" prior to the event takes a maximum of one-half hour plus travel time.

Training: Hands-on training is provided. New volunteers will work two to three projects under the supervision of a seasoned volunteer or staff member to learn established practices before being scheduled to manage a project on their own. Additional training will be provided as necessary.

Location: Work sites vary throughout east-central and west-central Denver and Lakewood. Some are located in public housing developments.

Interested Parties: Both males and females are encouraged to apply. Contact Shalene Onyango, Director of Volunteers and Development, at 303-274-4883 or Shalene@familyhomestead.org

Mission Statement

Famly HomeStead's mission is to "...house homeless families and end homelessness for individual families in our program in the Metro Denver Area...."

Description

Family HomeStead provides emergency and transitional housing and supportive case management to homeless families with children. Believingthat families with children do not belong in shelters, we place families in 31 emergency and 58 transitional apartments located in Denver and Jefferson County, CO. Case managers assist each family as the parents work to take charge of their family's life, develop a reliable income, and locate permanent affordable housing.

Client outcome objectives are that, upon program completion, 75% of families will have next-step housing, 75% will have income to support next-step housing, and 75% will effectively address the issues that caused their homelessness as identified in their case plan. Families meet or exceed these objectives year after year.
