ORGANIZATION: WELCOME FRIENDS OF GREATER PORT JEFFERSON, INC.

Welcome Friends' Tuesday Soup Kitchen needs drivers for food donation pick ups/deliveries from Trader Joe's located in Lake Grove. We need volunteers for the third and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Pick ups begin at 8:30 am - 9:20 am and are delivered/unloaded at the Tuesday Kitchen at 545 Old Town Road Port Jefferson, NY. It usually takes two hours or less to accomplish this task. There is also help to unload the items at the Tuesday Soup Kitchen.

Mission Statement

For over 30 years, our outstanding volunteers have addressed hunger in the Greater Port Jefferson and surrounding communities. Our soup kitchens have dynamic relationships with individual supporters, local food markets, farm stands, religious institutions, community leaders and local government. Welcome Friends strives to ensure that our guests need not fear the loss of meals. We create a sense of community for neighbors affected by hunger and poverty by serving them with dignity and respect in a safe, hospitable environment.

Description

Welcome Friends provides hot, nutritious meals four days a week in the Greater Port Jefferson community. We typically serve between 50 to 70 guests each night (3,000+ annually!). We are a 100% volunteer staffed organization, so every donation goes directly to serving our neighbors in need.

***We do not serve a meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas***
