Overview:
South Bronx United College Advisory Inters work closely with SBU's Director of College Guidance and Alumni to help coordinate and supervise the College Prep Program. Interns work 2 days per week and get hands on experience administering an educational program, tracking student progress towards college, and advising students on academic needs. The internship is perfect for those looking to gain experience in the fields of educational administration and college counseling. Summer inters will be working with the SBU rising seniors to prepare for the college application process during SBU's Summer Scholars Program.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiastic and caring with a specific interest in education and youth empowerment.
  • Should have a background in working with youth.
  • Experience and knowledge of the college application process, financial aid, and the SUNY & CUNY college application processes
  • Bachelor's Degree
Commitment:
Interns should commit to a full day on Fridays and a partial day on Wednesdays for the duration of the Summer Scholars program.

Training:
All inters will receive training from the Director of College Guidance and Alumni.

Benefits:
While the position is unpaid, inters have the opportunity to work directly with our Director fo College Guidance and our Director of Education Programs to learn firsthand the best practices for ensuring a pathway to college for all students.

Responsibilities in Detail:
  • Track program attendance and progress of all students
  • Family outreach/student outreach to improve student attendance at programs
  • Manage procurement and entry of student records and documents (transcripts, report cards, tax returns, waivers, etc.)
  • Research important college prep resources needed for each student (relevant scholarships, trade schools, additional SAT Prep & Regents Prep resources, GED option, etc.)
