Help our friend, Ben Steinberg, raise money to support cancer research, while listening to my band, OBO, at Dogfish Head Alehouse - Fairfax, VA!
Ben and his team are participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge, a 192-mile bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown, MA and are looking to raise over $50,000 for this great cause!
Here is a description of Ben's story and his reason for riding:
"Dear Family and Friends -
I did my first ride against cancer three years ago in Washington D.C. in support of a dear friend who was dying of cancer. Losing Kristen just before the ride left an absolutely huge hole in our hearts and in our lives, but gave us the strength and conviction to do as much as we can to fight this terrible disease. Two years ago my brother in law lost the use of his legs due to cancer on his spine and he has been fighting his way back. Now, thanks to funding by events like Pan Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) and incredible new cures he is up and walking again!!!
I am with a team of fantastic friends and family, and have decided to take on the PMC again this year. The training has begun and I am up to about 100 miles a week with a long way to go before the ride. On August 5th, our team will join more than 6,000 other cyclists in the PMC, to raise money for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. We are riding as Team KristenStrong and there are 10 of us in all! Last year the event raised over $51M in one weekend and $600M overall in its 38 year history. Unbelievable numbers and even more so when you remember that every rider will raised more than $5000 and every penny goes to research. On a much more modest front, our team is looking to raise over $50,000 this year. While this isn’t very local for us here in the DC area, Dana Farber is one of the leading centers for cancer research and was a real source of support in Kristen’s battle.
We are tackling the longer 192-mile route from Sturbridge to Provincetown this year and I am asking for your support (and prayers for no rain on the 110 mile first day!) in raising money for this very worthwhile charity. Donations are tax deductible.
Many, many thanks in advance for your generosity.
All the best,
Ben"
