The translation volunteer is a community member who is fluent in a language other than English and feels comfortable translating NELCWIT materials into that language (written translations). Our materials include brochures and pamphlets about our services, other organizations that our clientele may want to contact, and educational materials about domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, and related legal resources. These translations can be done remotely, but volunteers will be expected to check in regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator, including in person, and to track their hours diligently.
Translation volunteers who complete our 40 hour direct service training on domestic violence & sexual assault can serve as on-call translation volunteers in the event that a client in crisis requests a translator (NELCWIT has staff fluent in Spanish and does not need on-call translators for Spanish).
Translation volunteers support the mission of NELCWIT to work within and with the community to end domestic violence by expanding the pool of people who can access our services and information. For the volunteer, this is a chance to learn more about our services and the needs of the community, while getting professional-level translation experience.
