Do you like local nature? Do you want to learn valuable skills in event planning and project management?

We're looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated intern to assist in planning the Local Hero Awards gala for Bay Nature Institute, a small Berkeley-based nonprofit that covers local nature.

You may have seen us on the newsstand -- with the award-winning quarterly Bay Nature magazine -- or visited our news site Baynature.org.

Our 2019 awards dinner will be held Sunday, March 31, 2019 at the Berkeley City Club. The event brings together up to 300 members of the Bay Area conservation community to honor several people who've made significant contributions to the conservation and understanding of local nature. It's also our most important fundraiser of the year!

The event planning intern will direct and manage efforts researching and procuring 6-8 nature-themed silent auction packages and 2-3 live auction packages for our guests (e.g. Costa Rica, Galapagos trips), with the option of creating and managing auction displays, promotional signage, and communications with auction donors. You will work closely with members of our board and Events Planning Committee to brainstorm an irresistible assortment of auction packages that work with our event theme. The committee meets once a month for 1.5 hours through the end of March to plan the gala. The event planning intern will also support the development coordinator in other aspects of event planning.

Desired skills:
-Excellent organizational skills
-Attention to detail
-Familiarity with G Suite (Google Documents, Google Sheets, etc.)

Start Date: Flexible, between now and January 1st. Much of the work can be done virtually, with some in-office meetings.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in event planning and marketing, with a focus on nonprofit development, who'd like to play a role in an essential part of our fundraising efforts.

About Bay Nature Institute

Location:

1328 6TH ST STE 2, BERKELEY, CA 94710, US

Mission Statement

The Bay Nature Institute, based in Berkeley, California, inspires people through media and personal experience to explore and protect the diverse and beautiful natural world of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Description

Bay Nature is a quarterly magazine dedicated to the intelligent and joyful exploration of the natural places, plants, and wildlife of the San Francisco Bay Area. It contains writing, photography, art, and cartography about the natural history of the land and waters of the nine counties ringing the Bay, as well as significant nearby areas (such as the Delta and Monterey Bay).

Neither scientific journal nor travel guide, Bay Nature's aim is to foster a deeper connection between the Bay Area's residents and our surrounding landscapes. We do this by examining local nature from a variety of angles and in a wide range of voices, in a manner that is both accessible and intelligent, serious and playful. We see Bay Nature as a forum that brings together the local environmental, literary, artistic, and political communities, and serves the shared goal of conserving and restoring our natural heritage.
