Learn Skills Of A Veterinary Assistant With Hands-On Experience With Felines!
Community Animal Network's veterinary medical internship program is open to animal lovers, pre-vet students and those considering a career working in a vet hospital, as well as adults who may have missed their calling in life to work with animals.
Hours are 10 am to 2 pm weekdays and weekends and a commitment is made at least once a week for a 4 month term, (16 weeks). Most pre-vet interns commit for 6 - 9 months and those that found jobs at veterinary hospitals assisting vets served with us over a year.
Community Animal Network’s veterinary internship program is a good way to get hands-on animal care experience. The program began in 2015 and we are very proud that six of our interns are employed at vet hospitals; two of our high school students were accepted into Davis’s undergraduate program and two are now applying to vet school.
Volunteering with animals always starts with cleaning cages and the environment, but, this opportunity also teaches cat care experience restraining cats, trimming nails, using a flea comb, applying flea treatment, grooming and shaving sanitary clips. Students cut pills and learn how to administer medications, pronounce the names of the medications and learn the diseases the medications treat. In addition, students gain experience with specialty diets that better manage specific diseases.
We look forward to being a stepping stone into your future!
