Special Olympics Young Athletes(tm) is an inclusive early childhood sports and educational play program for children ages 2 to 7 years old, with and without disabilities. With an emphasis on training and participation through activities and play, rather than competition, young athletes learn basic sports skills, gross motor skills training, group interaction and socialization opportunities.

Date and Time: This program will start September 15th and run every Saturday through October 20th. Program time is 10am-11am but volunteers are needed from 9:30am-11:30am to help set-up and break down. Ideally we would like volunteers who can make each Saturday or a majority of them. You will work with the Specialized Recreation Program staff to schedule your volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Responsibilities: Volunteers would be responsible for encouraging and assisting participants to enjoy the games and activities that correspond with the skill they are working on for that day. Additional opportunities to work with this program are available during Spring and Summer.

Volunteer Requirements: All volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer. Volunteers will be required to fill out a volunteer application and pass a background check before being able to volunteer. Once cleared, they will also need to sign a release and indemnity form which will be good for the entire length of the program.

Work Environment: You may be inside or outside any given day. Restrooms will always be on site. You will be working with children of all abilities between the ages of 2 and 7.

Volunteer Impact: You will be helping to provide a fun and friendly atmosphere for children of all abilities to learn and play.

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
