ORGANIZATION: YWCA Dayton

YWCA Dayton, dedicated to the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism, seeks a highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student with an interest and passion in public policy and political science, particularly in areas concerning women’s rights, racial equity and intersections of gender, race and class, for an administrative intern position. This intern will report directly to the Advocacy & Grants Manager and will also work closely with other YWCA Dayton staff and volunteers.

DURATION:
Summer and/or Fall 2018

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Outreach - Assist in organizing and executing Y-Dub Discussion series to educate and engage the public

Assist in organizing and executing Revolutionary Reads book club by reviewing book selections and assisting in the planning of book club discussions

Plan and execute a get out the vote voter registration and engagement initiative

Legislative Advocacy- Remain current on YWCA Dayton policy priority areas, legislative and advocacy efforts

Track identified legislation and provide updates on changes in status; identify elected officials in support and opposition.

Identify and create strategy on when to connect with YW constituency to call for action.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to make public presentations and to communicate clearly and effectively with the public.

Ability to communicate with people of varying social, economic, religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Ability to interact with others both individually and as a team in order to cultivate support for the agency mission.

Ability to work independently and with agility to meet organizational needs.

Strong computer skills.

Excellent organizational skills.

EDUCATION:
Current undergraduate or graduate student.
